This year's LAC Land Forum will take place from 12-15 October and will focus on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the central role of land rights in achieving them. The Regional Land Forum organised every year by ILC LAC is a unique platform to showcase, debate and share proposals and innovative approaches to land governance and land rights for people living on and from land. The event allows for the exchange between different actors, fostering alliance building and advocacy for more inclusive land governance.

This year's Land Forum will focus on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the central role of land rights in achieving them. The challenges to achieving the 2030 Agenda have been further increased by the pandemic, which has hit the most neglected sectors, including rural people, the hardest. The pandemic has also highlighted the need to strengthen processes of change towards a more sustainable relationship with the planet, in which the land rights of those who are its main custodians are also central.

In this context, the events that make up the Land Forum will bring to the table the challenges and priorities in the region to advance the SDGs linked to land rights. The focus will be on SDGs 1, 2, 5 and 15, which address the issue of secure access to land for men and women; the centrality of strengthening the production of family farmers, peasants, indigenous peoples and pastoralists; the importance of ecosystem restoration, as well as the key role of rural youth and the urgency of securing the land rights of indigenous peoples more than ever. In addition, the Forum coincides with the International Day of Rural Women, so we will dedicate a session to reflect on rural women's proposals to confront the impacts of the extractivist model that predominates in the region.

The 2021 Land Forum is part of the International Land Coalition's efforts to contribute to the 2030 Agenda and to the follow-up of other international processes, such as the Decade of Family Farming, the Decade of Ecosystem Restoration, and the commitments arising from the Generation Equality Forum. In all of these, it is essential to advocate for land rights to be prioritised, in the knowledge that without them, their objectives cannot be achieved.

The event is organised by the International Land Coalition Latin America and the Caribbean in association with the regional and national platforms it supports, and its strategic allies.

Organizations and institutions involved in land issues: public sector, civil society organizations (indigenous and/or peasant organizations, women’s and youth organizations, NGOs, research centers), international organizations, among others.
